�@At last Ryokan was accepted for training, and worked hard at the temple of Koshouji for three

years.Then,because of his hard work,Ryokan was allowed to become a priest.Just at that time,the Reverend

Kokusen, the teacher of the priest at Koshoji,came to Koshoji from the temple of Entsuji in Tamashima

So Ryokan, in order to become a finer priest, decided to train under the Reverend Kokusen.Ryokan was

then in the spring of his twenty-second year.
