Rising harvest moon Banana tree in the garden Who is the taller? It is said that Ryokan composed this haiku when he was sitting on the verandah one autumn evening. He compared the bright, rising, full moon with a banana tree in his garden at Gogo-an. When he looked at the banana tree, perhaps he thought of those that grew in the garden at Entsuji, and he thought of his good days training in his youth. |
