Rising harvest moon

　It is said that Ryokan composed this haiku when he was sitting on the verandah one autumn evening.

He compared the bright, rising, full moon with a banana tree in his garden at Gogo-an.

　When he looked at the banana tree, perhaps he thought of those that grew in the garden at Entsuji, and

he thought of his good days training in his youth.
